Nicole Reed - Author

Author Nicole Reed, is an amazing Indie Author who has had success with books such as Cake, Ruining Me, Ruining You and Wasted Heart but how well do you know this author, we asked her a few questions about herself and her work, enjoy reading this interview with Nicole

Nicole recently penned her first MC book ~ Beautiful Ink which is an amazing read a 5+++ Kisses for us here at Tabby's.

What made you decide to start writing?
Years ago, I had a story that I decided to write for myself. It sit on my computer until I noticed the surge of self-publishing and the new adult genre emerging.  Then I took a chance releasing without telling any of my family or friends.

How did you feel when your first book went live on Amazon?
Honestly, it was done without much fanfare since no one knew. I truly thought to myself if ten people buy it and read it, that I don't know, then I'm an author. The first week I sold nine copies.

Do you put parts of your own personality into your characters?
Most definitely. Jay is very much an extension of me. Kylie and Syn both have a softness that is very much a part of my persona.  And Hels has an eternal hope that keeps me going in my everyday life.

How long does it take you to write a book and send it to publish?
Depends. I can write very fast, but I've learned that doesn't mean that I will ever self- publish. I'm learning that I'd rather sacrifice quantity for quality writing. As a self-publishing author this is hard financially, but as an "artist" I can be proud of everything I am producing.

Have you read a book by another author that stays with you no matter what other book you read?
YES!!!!  V.C. Andrews series Flowers in the Attic. Anything by Julia London who is fantastically fabulous. Laurell K. Hamiltons Anita Blake series. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie Maguire because Travis will always be the end all be all of "book boyfriends" and Abbi Glines Existence series because Dank just stays in my head.

Is there an author that inspires you? All the above.

Apart from writing what other activities do you enjoy doing?
Reading..of course. And spending time with my family.

Out of all your characters in your books, who would you like to go out with on a date (male only)?
Most definitely Kane from my Ruining series. He's my sensitive hottie.

If you had to name your favourite 3 authors who would they be?
I can't...lol But the ones listed above would be at the top.

How do you think up such great characters to write about?
I dream of them for months before they even make it to paper. I have their entire life stories mapped out in my head. I'm a big day dreamer.

Were any of your characters in your books based on people you know or characteristics of friends.
Yes!!!

Do you give sex scenes a trial run to test logistics before you write them?
My husband actually doesn't mind being the guinea pig. ;)

Do your family/friends know you write and have they read your books?
Yes and everyone can read them except my dad. It's bad enough that I have a great-uncle that reads and loves them...lol  NO... I LOVE IT!!!!

Is there anyone who you don't tell (and why)? na

Do you write full time or do you have another job?
I write full-time.  This is my bread and butter.

Have you always written or did you have another job before you started writing?
I worked in the medical field.

Who or what inspires you?
My mother inspires daily to be a better person and to keep on dreaming.  Every and anything is possible with hard work.

What is your biggest ambition as a writer?,
I think most writers want to walk into the big chain bookstore and see their work displayed. It's not the "end-all-be-all" for me, but yeah, it would be pretty cool.

What is next for you after this book?
I'm currently writing a follow-up novel for Beautiful Ink.

Who is your favorite character you’ve created? Jay.

What scenes are you most excited about in your latest book?
I love the scene where she tattoos Vin and the scene in the truck with Hold.

Do you have to adapt your books to cater for cultures around the world. No.

Do your characters speak to you when writing?
Yes, we have entire conversations. Sometimes they even get on my last nerve..lol

Do you let them guide the story, or do you write how you WANT it to happen?
They guide me. I've been known to completely deviate from my idea to keep it true to the character.

When you meet new people and get to know then do you think of them as one of your Characters in your books? Not, so far.

If one of your books could be a movie, which one would you pick and why?
Ruining series.

When writing some of the more difficult scenes, do you get as emotional as we do when we read it?
Yes, I cry like a baby.

Do you get nervous or anxious right before one of your books release? Terribly..lol

How do you deal with any negative reviews and does it bother you?
This is how I feel....when I chose this profession and published my book, I opened myself up for critique. My first book was released unedited (cringe) with a homemade cover. This was before the surge of the self-pub'ing industry and I would never do that again. It was met with some harsh criticism, but that spurred me to take creative writing courses since I wanted to continue to write. It's a double-edged sword.  As an author you can take it and turn it into something positive or you can let it beat you down.

What has surprised you and upset you the most about your success so far?
I'm surprised and overjoyed at the amount of true friendship that I have found through this experience. That means more than anything to me.

How long did you write before you were first published? Uh...first book. :)

What advice would you offer to aspiring writers?
Just don't give up. Not everyone is going to like everything you write. Some people like me for the Ruining Series and others for Cake.  And now Beautiful Ink is opening me up to another set of readers. Just keep writing.

I am curious about your writing process too...How does a story come to your mind and if you immediately put it down on paper or just the idea, or if you let it sink in your head more? And how the stories you do choose to put to life are chosen over other stories you might have thought about?
I sit down and start writing about the characters that occupy my everyday thoughts and go from there. It's their world.

Thank you Nicole for a brilliant interview, I must admit, out of all of your books, Cake was my first book of yours to read and I loved it so much, it was also my first ever signed book which I will treasure and my book boyfriend out of all your books has to be Kane as well, to me he is just lovely.

If anyone has not read anything from this author, I recommend all of Nicole Reed's books to you, you will not want to put them down.

I loved Beautiful Ink and our review for that book is on the blog, please check it out and read this book.  I am so glad there will be a follow up from this amazing read.

Thank you again Nicole, and from all at Tabby's Tantalizing Reviews we wish you all success in everything you write

Family.
I have tattooed that single word on more skin than I care to count. It elicits powerful thoughts and emotions for most people.
Loving. Caring. Supportive. Togetherness. Forever.
But not for me. The word family means so much more.
