Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule—he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn’t an acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul.
—Aleatha Romig, CONVICTED
Continue the long and painful acquisition, as the TRUTH becomes evident, from Behind His Eyes!
A man’s home was supposed to be his castle. Why, then did he dread coming home each night. Anthony Rawlings had all the comforts money could buy, and he couldn’t remember being more miserable.
Behind his eyes Truth, what can I say about this book or the author Aleatha Romig, well for one, Aleatha is such a talented writer, I was not sure how I would I would feel reading this book, would I still be mad at Anthony Rawlings for what he did to Claire or would my mind be changed about him. Tony, Tony, Tony, OMG I fell in love with him all over again reading this book. So let me tell you a bit more about Tony
What I found with this book is that Aleatha has made you understand a bit more on Tony and everyone in the other books, the connection he had with Claire and the struggles he has throughout the whole book are amazing to read and you feel every emotion, every fear and every angst that he goes through, yes there are some of the old traits of Tony in this book but you also see him struggle with the way he used to be and the way he treated Claire. I also loved the new Claire, the way she was around the old Tony and the new Tony was refreshing, it was also endearing.
I know most of you will be wondering about Catherine, well you will have to wait until you read the book to find out more on her....... my lips are sealed.
When Tony discovered that Claire had been released from Prison OMG hold on for that explosion, that part of the book was amazing to read, the intensity of that bomb dropping was brilliant writing by Aleatha, the anger was so palatable it felt so real like I was hearing Tony’s words in my own mind as if he was in the room with me. The control had gone from Tony here Everything had changed – His Claire had gone. Does she want to be found???
Tony manipulated everything in his life but since Claire’s release was something he could not manipulate or be in control of and that infuriated him.
Yes Tony had a life outside of Claire while she was in prison, although was he happy, dated but did they last?
Everything had come full circle: he was living the life he created before her, it was a life that used to satisfy – it no longer did. The outings left him feeling more hollow than his empty house. How could something-like a house, a date, or a life-that was virtually the same as it had been when it had been fulfilling, now seem empty?
I loved this part of the book it showed how unhappy Tony was and the vulnerability in him at that time.
Tony is such a mixed up character, well we knew that from the previous books but unlike some POV from the other perception, this story goes so much into his mind and wishes, feelings that you feel as if you are right there with him, which believe you me I wish I was. Yes I don’t mind admitting that I wish I was Claire especially in this book.
Tony realised that no matter where he went or what he did he always thought about Claire, even going to see his friends was not the same without her, they were her friends too, none of the dates he had ever went to his friends with him.
Tony’s life was a mess even if he didn’t want to admit to it, how would he get his life back together, did he want Claire back or was the fact that she was out of his control his obsession that he needed to control. – Step One: Admitting that one cannot control one’s addiction or compulsion. – Twelve-Step Program, Alcoholic Anonymous
The story goes on from Original Truth book itself but in more depth about how Tony felt after Claire’s release. The conversations he has with Roach and the emails and texts he has regarding the entire goings on with his life since Claire’s release. I loved how Aleatha shows the chapter in the original book so it gives you an insight as to what you are about to read in this book and the chapters it relates too.
The story not only concentrates on Tony and Claire but you hear more about Sophie, Catherine, Harry, Amber, Eric, Roach and everyone else who had an impact in the first book, the insight into their lives and what Tony did to those lives and influenced those lives was some of the best writing I have read.
I love how Aleatha never goes into graphics about the love scenes it is so great to have the scene written the way it is.
Tony’s connection again with Claire is brilliant, the intensity, strength and feelings that go through these two are so real in this book, the first meeting was brilliant – It was only Claire. As Tony approached, he watched her expression. Though she wore a mask of calm, in her emerald eyes he saw the fire he’d so desperately craved. With each step, he relished the warmth, like a frozen man in the wilderness coming upon lifesaving flames.
One part of the book I loved mostly about this book was when Tony said this to Claire- “I never lied about loving you, or pretending to love you. I didn’t realise it at first, but I have loved you since before you knew my name”. He bowed his head, kissed the soft skin atop of her hand.
One of my favourite phrases in the whole book was “you can’t lose everything until you have everything to lose. I had everything, and now look at me!”
I would love to tell you more but that would spoil the surprise of the book..... You will have to read it but please take my word for it, this is a 5+++ kiss read for me.
Glancing at the numerous pictures from his years of surveillance, Tony wondered if he and Claire had come full circle. Would it be like this again? Would his only connection to her be through this new investigator? Would he only see Claire in two dimensions? Tony searched for their contract, the beginning of their personal journey together. He knew it wouldn’t be that easy again. If he were to get her back to Iowa and into his life, it wouldn’t be because of a signature on a napkin.
Then he shook his head. He didn’t want her back, did he? Hell, the lack of sleep was making him sentimental. He stopped his search. The damn contract was no longer valid; it never had been—legally. Pushing the box back into its hideaway, he contemplated throwing it all away. Having her back wasn’t his goal; learning her location was. She had no right to disappear.
With the necklace in his hand, Tony settled upon the soft leather sofa in front of his fireplace. If Phillip Roach were correct, in a few moments he’d hear the voice that used to fill his suite and his house. When her voice came through his phone, Tony wanted to feel her presence. He imagined the sound as he looked up at her wedding portrait and saw the emerald green that haunted his dreams. What did he want to hear? He wanted to know she was safe and unharmed. He wanted to know where she was, and he also wanted to bring her back to Iowa—because that was where she belonged.
It didn’t make sense. To the world she was the woman who tried to kill him. To Tony she was more than that. The past twenty hours had proven it. She was his drug. Claire Nichols ran through his system like ecstasy, sending him on otherwise unobtainable highs. He reasoned that lows followed highs, and she’d given him those, too; they’d given them to each other. Nevertheless, without the right stimulant, the euphoria could never again be achieved. Whether it was elation or misery, neither would be obtainable without the exhilarating potency of Claire. He didn’t want an empty envelope. He wanted her. Nathaniel was wrong: Claire wasn’t gone; she was just misplaced.
For the last twenty-four hours, his entire being had surged with anticipation. Claire may not understand it—hell, Tony didn’t understand it, but he couldn’t deny it. Now that she was gone, he needed her back in his life, and he would have her.
