Makenna Lewis cringes at any mention of the word commitment. She doesn’t want or need a relationship, but she does like sex (who doesn't).
That explains Noah, Sean, and Zander, her three 'friends with benefits'.
They know the score, they know they're not the only one, and
each of them provide her with a different physical need that she craves and
enjoys.
Until a late night encounter with the delicious Daniel Winters turns her preconceived notion of no-commitment completely on its head.
Until a late night encounter with the delicious Daniel Winters turns her preconceived notion of no-commitment completely on its head.
Soon she finds herself feeling things she vowed never to feel
again, and when Daniel pushes for more than she’s willing to give, she falters.
What do
you do when something that you’ve known to be so wrong in the past feels so
damn right?
If you’re
Mac, you run and hide.
Tabby's Review:
Makenna (Mac),
once gave up everything to be with the guy she loved, only for the relationship
to turn abusive. One night after a very traumatic event Makenna decides it’s
time to get her life back, but not before making a vow to herself that she will
never again be dictated by a man, and never let love lead her astray. But are
vows made to last or are they made to be broken?
“I need to reclaim myself,
my identity, my freaking backbone that I used to be known for.”
Fast forward 4 years
down the road, Mac is a nurse in the ICU, living life to the fullest. She has
an awesome best friend/roommate named Kate and she has three ( yes, you read that right
three) “Fuck Buddies”, Noah the doctor
aka “The Walking Dildo”, Zander
the sexy gyrating stripper and Sean the “Dominate” Corporate Attorney. They each provide her with something she
needs, sexually at least. The thing that Mac enjoys about the “No strings”
arrangement of her three Friends with Benefits is that there are no feelings, romantic
complications and no expectations of any kind. They just provide her with what
she needs sexually, and she goes on with her life. Her life is going exactly as
she plans…until she meets Daniel Winters on the L.
It’s like he’s the
professor of “How to get a girl’s panties to drop 101” and he’s giving every
man a lesson.
Daniel is the
man that most women dream of he is funny, confident, patient, respectful and oh
so sexy. This one chance meeting
turns her world upside down, he is her Superman. Only her past has left her
conflicted about any chance of a committed relationship, in turn leaving her
indecisive, confused and not to mention prone to freak outs. There is the undeniable, strong pull towards
Daniel, but the more it pulls, the more she pushes and runs away. Can Mac get over her own insecurities and
issues? Can she open her heart and love again? And when she figures it out,
will Daniel be waiting for her?
"As hard as this is
for me to say, don't come back to me until you figure out what you want and who
you want it with because I'm getting sick of watching you walk away."
What can I say
about Temporary Bliss? It’s Fan-Freakin-Tastic, that’s what it is! The playful
banter between Superman (Yes, I know his name is Daniel but he is my Superman)
and Mac is hilarious at times and other times it is panty melting hot! There
was no picking a team for me when reading this book, because from the moment
Superman Daniel opened his mouth, I was hooked. There were times that I wanted
to grab Mac by the shoulders and shake the hell out of her. I mean seriously,
you have the perfect male specimen in front of you and you run away with your
tail between your legs...really?! She needed to put on her big girl panties and
be a woman and move past her loser ex-boyfriend and be with Mr. Delicious, sex
on the beach, Superman Daniel. Even with all her indecisiveness I loved Mac,
she is strong, feisty and man does she tell you how it is. There is no OMG kill
me cliffhanger at the end of Temporary Bliss, because it is a part of a series
where focusing on different couples. Next up is Mac’s unfiltered friend Kate’s
book True Bliss, who knows maybe we will see more of Mac’s trio of booty calls
in that book. BJ Harvey, you are pure genius, this book pulled me in from the
start and never let go. I got smacked in the face with my Kindle a few times
because I stayed up too late reading Temporary Bliss. I so can’t wait for True
Bliss!
Excerpt:
We reach the park about fifteen minutes later, our progress hindered by my sky high boots that my feet are now complaining to me about...a lot! Pier Park closed early for the night, scuttling our plans to take a few rides on the Ferris wheel. “Are your feet sore? Do you want to just take a slow walk around the pier?”
“Sounds good, but I’m gonna take these torture devices off
my feet,” I say as I find a park bench and sit down, bending over to pull them
off.
“Let me.”
He gets down on one knee and holds my ankle, unzipping the
boots and sliding the first one off. He then starts rubbing his hands into my
feet, kneading them firmly. I can’t stifle the moan that escapes me as I lean
back against the bench and enjoy the blissful foot rub I’m currently being
given.
“That feels so good,” I groan as he continues his massage.
He then turns his attention to my other foot, his touch on my skin so light,
yet his heat burns through me in a direct line to my now aching core. This is
the most drawn out foreplay I’ve ever experienced, and I almost don’t want it
to end.
Once he’s finished, he stands back on his feet, my super
pretty boots in one hand while he pulls me up with the other. “Better?” he
asks, kissing my temple.
“Much. You better watch out, though. I might have to keep
you stashed in the corner of my bedroom as my personal foot massage slave,” I
say with a laugh.
His eyes grow dark, full of hunger and desire. “You wouldn’t
have to force me to stay in your bedroom, Mac.”
“The idea of it makes me hot,” I reply with a wink.

Deleted Scene – Temporary Bliss
“Which
boy of the week was that?” Kate asks with a smirk.
“Sean.
I felt a little crazy last night so needed a spanking.”
I laugh
as Kate spits her coffee out and starts choking.
“God
dammit Mac, you’re so easy.”
“I’m
not easy, I’m free spirited.”
“Free
spirited with your body.”
“Hey
now, no need to get jealous. It’s like having one boyfriend with four different
talents. They’re all great at what they do, but there are particular things
they excel at,” I say with a wink.
Kate
giggles at that. I know she means well but I still feel the need to explain
myself.
“Look,
it’s what I like and it’s what I need right now. After Beau, I don’t want
anything other than sex. They know the score and they’re fine with it.”
I don’t
really feel the conviction in my last comment though. They’re supposed to know
the score and be fine with it. But Daniel, I’m not so sure about anymore.
He seems too keen to see me, too disappointed
when it’s time to leave, and has even broached the subject of catching a movie
sometime. I’ve brushed it off but it is getting to the stage where I might have
to break off our arrangement. It’s the last thing I want to do because he is
just what I like to come home to after a long twelve hour shift. He’s the
affectionate one. He’s always kissing me, nuzzling my neck, and God, the
massages he gives me are to die for. Our lovemaking is soft and sensual, it;s
lazy and hedonistic, it’s like a warm apple pie on a cold winter’s night. He’s
my comfort sex. But get him fired up, and holy cow batman, that man can set me
on fire.
