SYNOPSIS:
Riley Walker makes all
the right decisions and knows exactly where her life is headed.
Riley Walker does not
make mistakes.
Riley Walker certainly
doesn’t make spontaneous decisions.
But then Riley Walker
gets dumped.
Spectacularly,
gut-wrenching, stomp all over her heart dumped. And she is feeling more than a
little angry. And a whole lot bitter. And suddenly the girl who has always done
everything right feels like doing something completely wrong.
Garrett Bellows, lead
guitarist for the local band, Generation Rejects, is going through life without
a plan. Trying not to think past the next gig or the next party, he has worked
hard to not become too attached to anyone or anything. So he is shocked to find
himself drawn to the snarky girl with a chip on her shoulder. She pisses him
off and puts him down. He knows she’s nothing more than a self-entitled college
brat who thinks she’s better than the townie boy without a future.
Alcohol and a hefty dose
of lust leads to a night both Riley and Garrett immediately regret. Her
embarrassment, his pride and the weight of rumors and misconceptions convince
Riley and Garrett that their one-time indiscretion will never be repeated.
Particularly when their harshest critics are each other.
But how do you reconcile
a head that wants to let go with a heart that keeps holding on?
And what happens when
your biggest regret begins to seem almost perfect?
Excerpt:
Slowly, Garrett kicked
off the shoes he had just put on and lay down beside me. I scootched over to make room on the double
bed. Garrett stretched his arm above his
head, his other arm laying awkwardly beside him as though he didn’t know what
to do with it.
I rolled onto my side and pressed my back
into him and then he got the hint. He
slid over and wrapped his arm around my waist.
This spooning thing really was an uncomfortable business. You never knew what to do with your arms or
legs. It took forever to find that spot where you felt like you weren’t a human
pretzel.
But when you found that spot, it was pure
bliss. And when I found that spot with
Garrett I never wanted to move again.
Our bodies synched up and we sort of melted into each other. Garrett tucked my head under his chin and I
felt warm and secure wrapped up in him like this.
“Will you be here when I wake up?” I asked
almost fearfully. I couldn’t figure out
why it was so important for him to be here with me. But right now it was the most necessary thing
in my world.
“I’ll be here as long as you want me, Riley,”
he whispered, his breath stirring my hair.
And that’s all I needed to fall into a restful sleep.
Tabby’s Review:
I have waited for what
seems like forever for Perfect Regret to come out, and I am so happy that it is
finally here! I read Perfect Regret in one sitting, giving up sleep and food to
do so. I just couldn’t put my Kindle down and walk away. Yes, it was just that good.
The Perfect Regret
centers around Riley Walker and Garrett Bellows, who quite frankly are a mess
together but together they somehow come together. Riley, Riley, Riley oh how I wanted to smack
you at times, but I still loved you snarky, bitter, make no apologies attitude. Riley literally had her heart ripped out of
her chest and stomped on when she was unexpectedly dumped by her boyfriend
Damien. Riley and Garrett know each other, and needless to say they aren’t very
friendly towards each other. Garrett is the townie, with no direction, no plan,
and parties all the time. Whereas, Riley has a plan for everything, she knows
how she wants her life to go and she won’t stand for anything less, everything
needs to be perfect. That is until one night after drinking with Maysie and her
boyfriend Jordan’s band Generation Rejects, Riley ends up in the bed of a man
she loves to hate- Garrett Bellows.
Needless to say, her
anger and bitterness gets turned up a few notches after this, yet Garrett continues
to try to win Riley over again and again. When Riley experiences a horrible
loss Garrett is right there trying to help her through it. Riley is like a
spinning top, one minute she is accepting and the next her smart ass side is
back full force.
I’m not going to go into anymore details
because that will ruin the story, and I believe you need to go into this book
not expecting anything, to feel the emotions that it will bring on. I loved
this story, it is a roller coaster of emotions, it has so many ups and downs
and twists and turns it made my head spin. It even brought on tears a few
times. A. Meredith Walters wrote an
amazing, well-rounded, angst filled emotional book. It was definitely a page
turner.
If your into seemingly
bad boy rockers, who end up having a sweet, romantic sensitive side, then you
will love this book! I highly recommend it.
